Tucked away in the fertile Breede River Valley, Lemoenpoort Farm has been in the Viljoen family for almost 200 years. The farmstead, despite its grand gable, has the feeling of a homely country manor, decorated with a pleasing mix of old-fashioned charm (wooden dressers, riempie chairs, wrought-iron beds) and modern comforts (Kolkol hot tub, electric blankets, Netflix, DSTV, solar power and inverters).

It’s a great choice for a family break, for slowing down, for reconnecting and tuning in to the seasons. You’re free to explore this grape and fruit farm, which is also home to wildebeest, zebras and antelope; there’s a dam and nearby Draaivlei wetlands, where you can pick waterblommetjies in early spring. And the wood-fired hot tub, with its view of the Stettyn Mountains, is a wonderful reward at the end of a day’s play.
