De Kombuys: Spitzkop Villa

On a 200-year-old organic wine and wagyu farm just down the road from the Cango Caves, at the foot of the Swartberg Mountains, you’ll find a trio of one-bedroom luxury boutique villas – each with a fireplace, heated splash pool and outdoor freestanding bathtub. In an elevated position, amid fynbos and beside a stream, they offer fresh air, tranquillity and great views over the entire farm, all the way to the mountains.

A more recent addition is the beautifully restored two-bedroom family vineyard cottage, House Shiraz, which dates back to the 1800s and boasts its own fireplace, wood-barrel bathtub, furnished patio and private pool overlooking the picturesque Shiraz vineyard. There’s also a deli filled with Karoo treats, a children’s play area and the speciality Marbled Wagyu restaurant. It’s about as snazzy as these things get without a hint of pretence, but with heaps of Karoo hospitality.
